This time, the focus is on safety training\u2014prompted in part by recent incidents in the Adriatic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Training Focus Areas<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Safety equipment, safety briefings, and voyage management (A, B, C)<\/li>\n<li>Boat handling in confined spaces with a small crew, line handling, docking\/undocking, spring techniques, turning in tight quarters<\/li>\n<li>Buoy maneuvers (docking under sail, lasso technique, mooring line techniques)<\/li>\n<li>Anchoring techniques (bow anchor vs. mooring lines, anchoring under sail, two-anchor setups)<\/li>\n<li>Voyage and weather planning (motor vs. sail), passage planning, aborting the voyage, seeking refuge<\/li>\n<li>Points of sail \u2013 sail trim, reefing, tacking, gybing, collision avoidance rules<\/li>\n<li>GPS\/plotter failure, terrestrial navigation (lights\/beacons, bearing techniques, dead reckoning)<\/li>\n<li>Heavy weather tactics (sail\/motor), reefing, heaving-to, running before the wind, sea anchors<\/li>\n<li>Safety &amp; emergency handling (MOB, person recovery (day\/night), lights, towing)<\/li>\n<li>Onboard emergencies (water intake, fire, rudder failure, engine failure, mast\/shroud failure, electrical failure, steering failure, abandoning ship (grab bag)<\/li>\n<li>First aid at sea (seasickness, CPR, bleeding, hypothermia, burns, fractures, emergency medical care on board)<\/li>\n<li>Emergency communication (Mayday, Pan-Pan, S\u00e9curit\u00e9), DSC distress calls, VHF radio practice<\/li>\n<li>Common malfunctions &amp; simple repairs \/ Check-out<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Individual Focus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Participants are welcome to suggest their own topics of interest.
