Training for Skippers and Experienced Crew Members – Autumn 2026

Dear Sailing friends!

From October 3 to 17, 2026, we are once again organizing a special training course for skippers and experienced crew members. This time, the focus is on safety training—prompted in part by recent incidents in the Adriatic.

Training Focus Areas

  • Safety equipment, safety briefings, and voyage management (A, B, C)
  • Boat handling in confined spaces with a small crew, line handling, docking/undocking, spring techniques, turning in tight quarters
  • Buoy maneuvers (docking under sail, lasso technique, mooring line techniques)
  • Anchoring techniques (bow anchor vs. mooring lines, anchoring under sail, two-anchor setups)
  • Voyage and weather planning (motor vs. sail), passage planning, aborting the voyage, seeking refuge
  • Points of sail – sail trim, reefing, tacking, gybing, collision avoidance rules
  • GPS/plotter failure, terrestrial navigation (lights/beacons, bearing techniques, dead reckoning)
  • Heavy weather tactics (sail/motor), reefing, heaving-to, running before the wind, sea anchors
  • Safety & emergency handling (MOB, person recovery (day/night), lights, towing)
  • Onboard emergencies (water intake, fire, rudder failure, engine failure, mast/shroud failure, electrical failure, steering failure, abandoning ship (grab bag)
  • First aid at sea (seasickness, CPR, bleeding, hypothermia, burns, fractures, emergency medical care on board)
  • Emergency communication (Mayday, Pan-Pan, Sécurité), DSC distress calls, VHF radio practice
  • Common malfunctions & simple repairs / Check-out
